Established in 1970 in Shelbyville, Indiana, Shelby Shifters Car Club Inc. is a Not-for-Profit Corporation recognized by the State of Indiana. Our membership primarily consists of individuals from Shelby County and neighboring areas.
The club’s flagship fundraising event is the annual Shelby Shifters Car Show, which recently celebrated its 26th edition and is gearing up for an even larger 27th annual show. Over the years, we have been privileged to host one of the largest car shows in the region. The event takes place annually on the third Sunday of July at Kennedy Park in Shelbyville. Recent shows have seen show vehicle registration exceed 400 vehicles, with our goal of reaching 500 still in progress. We award prizes to the top 75 entries, as well as a slew of specialty awards including Favorite of the Show, Napa Sponsor’s Pick, Club Favorite Engine, Club Favorite Paint, Club Favorite Motorcycle, etc…
The club is deeply committed to community involvement and charitable endeavors. A key aspect of our annual car show is the awarding of three scholarships to students enrolled in the Blue River Career Programs in Shelbyville. These scholarships are presented to outstanding students in the Auto Technology and Diesel Technology classes and are traditionally in the form of tools and toolboxes rather than a monetary scholarship. This initiative aims to support the students’ career development and sustain their interest in automotive technology and hot rodding, hoping to alleviate the burden or taking on debt of starting a career that often times requires you to bring your own tools. We have also been extremely lucky in being able to partner with a local body shop in town, Lester’s Body Shop, to provide additional support that allows up to provide a decent sized toolbox to the students.
Additionally, we are strong supporters of the Shelbyville Parks Department and its programs for local youth. For many years, we have collaborated with them to host our car show and have contributed various items for use in park and civic center activities.
In alignment with our non-profit mission, we are dedicated to channeling the proceeds from our car shows to individuals and organizations in need. Beneficiaries include, but are not limited to: The Salvation Army, the Cancer Society of Shelby County, Especially Kids, Pantry Pals, and several local families during the Christmas season.
If you are interested in joining our organization, please use the contact us link above. Our club meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM at the Knights of Columbus in Shelbyville, IN. Membership is open to anyone with a passion for cars and camaraderie. Prospective members are required to attend three club meetings prior to being considered for membership.
Throughout the year, club members participate in a variety of events, including local car shows and overnight trips to major automotive events such as the Frog Follies in Evansville, The Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, and shows in Springfield and Kalamazoo. Many members also attend the World of Wheels in Indianapolis and the Goodguys Shows in Columbus, Ohio.
